The first thing I did was schedule an appointment to see a hormone specialist who recommended a TON of bloodwork to get a full and complete picture. This is how I found out I also have mild hypothyroidism which leads to weight gain as well.

Hormone replacement therapy is NOT for everyone. You should consult with your doctor about the risks. It is especially risky for women who have had cancer or are at risk genetically of getting cancer.

I take Liothyronine for my thyroid, Progesterone and Estrogen are the two hormones that I take. Progesertone is a compounded hormone that I take orally once daily. Estrogen is administered by patch and I apply a new patch once a week.

There are some other things you can take to help with the symptoms you are experiencing and keep you healthy. Talk to your doctor about Vitamin D, Omega 3, B-Complex, Adrenal Essence, Evening Primrose Oil, etc. For a full list of supplements that help with the symptoms of menopause be sure to read this post.

Again, consult with your doctor first. You may even want to hire a nutritionist who specializes in menopausal women. If you hire a “regular” nutritionist, you might hear the same “eat less” mantra.

In the past, I have tried Intermittent Fasting, KETO, and of course my normal go-to of giving up sugar and carbs. IF (Intermittent Fasting) didn’t move the needle. I got really tired of the KETO foods after three months, which you can read more about here. And, my typical go-to’s were no longer working as I mentioned above.

To lose my 15 pounds I gave up a TON of things. I basically became vegan with the exception of eggs.  I ditched sugar, gluten, dairy, meat and alcohol.  I followed the plant-based, vegan diet for 6 months and that helped me lose 10 pounds.

Recently, I started incorporating meat back into my diet. I am still mostly dairy and gluten-free. I definitely indulge in some sugar every now and then. I opt for organic, dark chocolate mostly. And, I love the Daily Harvest dairy-free ice cream here.

Mixing up my exercise routine was also KEY to losing the extra weight. Initially, I tried all the ‘go-to’ workouts including: running for a year straight (

Weight Loss And Exercise During Menopause

A 17-mile mountain pass run/hike, some heavy weight training, P.Volve, BBG, Pilates, Barre. You name it, I did it! The heavy cardio worked, but it was not sustainable and it wreaked havoc on my body.

How I actually lost the last 5 pounds…? Doing the Tracy Anderson Method 6 times per week. I do Tracy’s aTAin online studio workout at least 5x per week now. It changes the game! Look at my legs in the before and after pictures above. You can see how much thinner my legs are! You can also see what my estrogen patch looks like… Ha! I could have edited that out, but I thought it might be helpful to see it. Tracy’s workouts have shaved inches off my body and given me more energy and flexibility. I recommend turning her music off and listening to your own playlist while doing the workout. I think you should also start with the Mat DVD, which is FREE on YouTube to see if you like it. Try it for 6 weeks!

Did I get super shredded like a badass fitness guru with zero body fat? Nope. But I feel SO much healthier and stronger! To me…that is what matters. Oh, and I can button my jeans again!

When I was in my 20’s, 30’s and even my early 40’s losing weight was easy. I’d just have to cut back on some of my favorite foods that weren’t healthy and I’d lose the weight. But as soon as I hit menopause the weight starting slowing creeping up and I couldn’t stop it. Until one day I decided I had enough. I decided that if I wanted to feel and look better I needed to make a big change. So what did I do to lose the weight and keep it off? Before we get into that let me first talk about my addiction.

The Menopause Diet — 5 Day Plan To Lose Weight

I’ve been addicted to sugar since I was a child. I remember needing that sugar fix even before going to school in the morning. My teacher must have loved me. During my childhood years I would eat the real sugary sweets like the flavored straws, wacky waffers (if you grew up in the 70’s you remember those), jolly ranchers and bub’s daddy gum. Sour apple was my favorite.

As a teen I remember eating hostess cherry pies for lunch every day. And those fund raisers for candy bars, holy cow I could get my fix on even in class! I would sell some and buy some to eat it was a win win.

When I was an adult I tried many, many diets. I would always lose weight and as a reward after I lost the weight I would treat myself to something sweet like a cookie, or cupcake. But that little treat became another and another. I could not go a day without eating a sweet treat.

Macafem And Weight Loss

Then I turned 40 and my metabolism started to slow down. The weight started slowly creeping on and even though in the past I was able to cut down on the junk I wasn’t able to lose the weight. I’d visit my Dr. for checkups and everything was okay so they’d tell me to work out more. Really? Like I wanted to work out anymore than I already was. First off I hate working out. I mean I truly hate it! Second I could have worked out all day and it wouldn’t matter because that scale was not moving.

How

I heard about Whole30. It’s a cleansing kind of a diet. I knew that I had to kick menopause in the butt and get serious. With this diet eat a very strict for 30 days. One of the things you give up is sugar. And not just sugar treats but anything with sugar in it. I cringed at the idea of giving up my beloved chocolate and sweets. I thought no way I can’t do it. So I went about my life trying to figure out what to do. In the mean time I felt horrible, tired, bloated with aches and pains in my legs.

One day after eating ice cream I looked in the mirror and I couldn’t believe what I saw. My stomach was so bloated I looked like I was 3 months pregnant! That was the last straw. I decided to go on whole30 because I needed to change my lifestyle.

How To Lose Weight During Menopause: A 5 Day Diet Plan

I’m not going to tell you that it’s easy because it’s not. Giving up sweets was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. And if someone would have told me four years ago that I’d never eat chocolate again I’d say you’re nuts, no way! But I did it!

The first month I think I lost 4 pounds? I can’t remember. It wasn’t a lot of weight but more importantly I started to feel better.
